10 French GCSE Exam tips

  1. Don’t say « hum » but YOU’RE LACKING THE WORD BUT say IN ORDER TO GAIN SOME TIME
    1. En effet, then pause = indeed
    2. Je dirai même plus = I would say (Thompson and Thompson)
  2. Use some intensifier which are typically French such as 1er conseil utiliser des mots typiquement français tels que « carrément »
    1. Carrément e.g Je suis carrément d’accord / I totally agree
    2. Je pense carrément le faire. I’m actually thinking of doing it.
    3. Ils ont carrément raison. They are absolutely right
  3. Always add an opinion / Toujours ajouter une opinion
    1. This can be easily done this way
      1. A mon avis, in my opinion
      2. Je pense que / I think that
      3. J’estime que / I think that
  4. Add some elements to sequence your speech or writing / ajouter des éléments pour ordonner votre discours ou votre écrit
    1. Tout d’abord / at first
    2. Ensuite / next
    3. De plus / Furthermore
  5. Add some elements to make a contrast/ ajouter un élement de contraste
    1. Cependant / however
    2. Toutefois / however
  6. Always add a conclusion / Toujours ajouter une conclusion
    1. This could be easily done this way
      1. Pour conclure / to conclude
      2. En conclusion / to sum up
  7. Always add a French expression. Toujours ajouter une expression française
    1. J’étais au taquet – I was very busy
    2. Les petites rivières font de grands fleuves / small streams make big rivers

  8. Always use three tenses
    1. Utiliser trois temps
    2. Je pense qu’il faudra / I think we will need to 
    3. Auparavant, on faisait/ on ne faisait pas 
    4. Before we did / we did not ..;
  9. Réuse the vocab from the question e.g.Qu’est-ce que tu fais pendant ton temps libre ? What do you do in your free time? Pendant mon temps libre, je fais …..
    1. In my free time I do
    2. Quels sont les avantages d’habiter en ville ? Les avantages d’habiter en ville sont
  10. Faites des phrases courtes et correct. Make short sentences rather than long-winded one. Subject + verb + complement
    1. En vacances, je fais beaucoup de sport.
